The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 3,200 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 5 years to get that many views.

Where is India Heading to?

Filed under: My Reflections — economicsmate @ 10:40 AM

If anyone who follows the newspaper regularly then every day we read that somewhere someone is raped and also some other crimes has become almost common now in India. On one side, we are talking about faster Growth and on the other side there is big hole and leakage. Many will say there is no correlation between crimes and growth; I agree to certain extent. But I wanted to ask a question, whoever say this to me, that Do we need a faster growth which doesn’t have any solid foundation or do we need a growth with strong foundation? Here the strong foundation means both cultural and economic. Following other countries lifestyle has become fashion for us. We feel ashamed to talk in our mother tongue and to respect our own culture. We feel ashamed to look like Indians!! Yes, read it right like Indians.

If you ask people today especially today’s youngsters & adults (between the age group of 30-40 years; of course not all but majority of the people), whether they are proud to be Indian? I can assure you many will say instantly YES without any hesitation. But at the same time if you ask them about our tradition and culture majority of the people will question about our traditions and culture whether they know our culture and traditions or not but they will question about it.

Indian culture is unique compared to others in the world. It is unique because in each and every region they have their own culture and tradition to follow. Despite of these differences we are bonded as a nation because all the difference in culture and tradition denotes the same in one way or the other. Now, coming back to the topic, where really India is heading to? Is fast growth rate is more important at the cost of cultural degradation? For many people this question is always a debate and for many it is unimportant or absurd question!!! But this is most important question at this point of time. If we are not able to understand this now, then we will lose our entire tradition and culture in future.

In the beginning I said that there is a big hole and leakage in our system. It is not only the culture and tradition which we are forgetting now, but, the basic leakage is our Education System. We just want world class education system, but, what exactly that means? Is it just imitating European, US or Australian Education system or is it the education which have Values? Nowadays, few schools provide a fancy tag line “We Provide Value Education”! Now, when one see what kind of value education they provide? Then we can see that many of these schools  (again not all schools)talk about money values strictly and not any other values. Our education system needs a drastic change which should also talk about human values. I really don’t understand at this point of time where we are really heading to? (As usual I leave this post open ended – Hope Against all Hopes that my nation will wake up from these kind of degradation soon! – with sadness Economicsmate)

What is your Search about?

Filed under: My Reflections — economicsmate @ 6:19 PM

I would like to share this video in my blog. This is an excellent video, which will make everybody of us to ponder (at least for a while). Before continuing further, First, I would like to thank my friend from odisha who had shared this video.  After watching this video I had done some introspection. It raised few questions in my mind. I am listing 2 major questions, here, which may help us to ponder and do more introspection later:

1. How many people really know what they want from life?

2 . Even if they know what are the things they want or dream of ; how many people really do follow their dreams or able to do so?

These are the 2 major questions. After my introspection, I felt that each and everyone of us, as a human being, are searching for something in life. For some it may be search for more money, for some power, for some a wealthy lifestyle etc…. But besides everything there is a search for one big thing in human life, its search for everlasting happiness and peace!

In today’s so called Modern World there is more stress, pressure, anger, frustration etc… When one go and find out the cause for it then one can easily find the answer for these things. In this speedy world, we rarely provide time for ourselves. We never desire solitude because we feel loneliness! There is a difference between both Solitude and Loneliness.

Solitude is a state of being alone without being lonely. It is a state where one can be positive and constructive with oneself. It is a desirable state where you provide yourself as a wonderful company. Whereas Loneliness is a negative state which is marked by isolation; where one feels that something is missing. It also makes you depressed.

So, whenever we find sometime of being alone we should introspect about ourselves! We should utilize those times for knowing ourselves, say, what exactly we are and what we exactly need to with life.

Some people are frightened to be alone; they have fear of losing themselves. For them I just wanted to say that, initially, when we are alone these kinds of things do happen, so there is nothing to get frightened about it; rather we should carry on with our introspection and use those times for our own development.  This will lead to what we search for?

I leave this post with an open ended question (as usual) what is your search about?
